CINEMA 1 ↔ CINEMA 2 / EDITION, CHAPTER, PROBLEM

Preserve each edition’s wording before explaining a house term

Cinema 1 supplies the genetic conditions of the time-image; Cinema 2 reverses the subordination of time to movement. This page first records the 2016 and 2004 Chinese headings and dual pagination, then compresses each Cinema 2 chapter into a testable problem. Published headings and editorial guide labels remain separate.

Collation boundary: both printed editions are formally published translations. The PDFs used for internal checking are third-party image scans, not official e-books; the site does not host, embed, or distribute them.

THREE READING PASSES
1

Structural pass

01–02 rupture and new signs · 03–06 memory, crystal, truth · 07–10 thought, body, sound, information

2

Concept pass

Track one relation per chapter: how does action fail? How do actual and virtual exchange? How does a cut force thought?

3

Shot verification

Return to films. Do not prove a concept with plot summary; record the work of shots, sounds, spaces, bodies, and cuts.

CINEMA 1 / 2016 ZH-CN EDITION

Twelve chapters form the immanent prehistory of the time-image

Headings reproduce the 2016 edition. The site’s 情动—影像 / 行动—影像 are house terms; the contents preserve the edition’s 情感—影像 / 动作—影像 and its chapter-eight wording 情愫.

Three hinges

Montage already produces an indirect image of time. Any-space-whatever changes the coordinates of action but is not a sufficient condition of the time-image. Chapter 12 supplies only a negative condition, which must be followed toward pure optical/sound situations and direct time.

Ten published headings, ten editorial research problems

Main headings reproduce the 2004 edition. Where house terminology requires a guide label, the next line marks it explicitly as E1 rather than presenting it as the book’s wording.

Beyond the movement-image

2004 ZH-CN · PUBLISHED: 超越运动—影像

Why does the sensory-motor schema falter in postwar cinema?

EDITION LOCATOR

print 137 · PDF viewer 1248

CONCEPTS

opsign · sonsign · seer · any-space-whatever

FILMMAKERS / FILMS

Ozu · Rossellini · De Sica · Antonioni

Close-reading note

Begin with characters who see rather than act, but do not treat inaction as the endpoint. Trace how pure optical and sound situations alter the character-world relation.

Recapitulation of images and signs

2004 ZH-CN · PUBLISHED: 影像和符号的概述

Why can Peirce’s categories not close the taxonomy of cinematic signs?

EDITION LOCATOR

print 3867 · PDF viewer 4978

CONCEPTS

zeroness · opsign · sonsign · time-image

FILMMAKERS / FILMS

Hitchcock · Italian neorealism · French New Wave

Close-reading note

This is the hinge between the two Cinema volumes: it revisits the closure of the movement-image and shows why new signs must appear.

From recollection to dreams: third commentary on Bergson

2004 ZH-CN · PUBLISHED: 从回忆到梦幻(三评柏格森)

Why can flashback and dream remain within the sensory-motor regime?

EDITION LOCATOR

print 68105 · PDF viewer 79116

CONCEPTS

recollection-image · dream-image · virtual circuit · pure memory

FILMMAKERS / FILMS

Mankiewicz · Carné · Minnelli · Buñuel

Close-reading note

Do not diagnose the time-image by the presence of memory. Ask whether recollection is reattached to the present through action and psychological causality.

The crystals of time

2004 ZH-CN · PUBLISHED: 时间的晶体

How do the actual present and virtual past form the smallest circuit?

EDITION LOCATOR

print 106152 · PDF viewer 117163

CONCEPTS

actual / virtual · crystal-image · indiscernibility · seed / environment

FILMMAKERS / FILMS

Ophuls · Renoir · Fellini · Visconti

Close-reading note

Treat the crystal as dynamic exchange, not an inventory of mirror motifs. Deleuze distinguishes perfect, cracked, forming, and decaying crystals.

Peaks of present and sheets of past: fourth commentary on Bergson

2004 ZH-CN · PUBLISHED: 现在尖点与过去时面(四评柏格森)

How does direct time split into coexisting pasts and incompossible presents?

EDITION LOCATOR

print 153198 · PDF viewer 164209

CONCEPTS

sheets of past · peaks of present · chronosign · incompossible

FILMMAKERS / FILMS

Welles · Resnais · Robbe-Grillet

Close-reading note

Compare the sheets of past in Citizen Kane with the multiple presents of Last Year at Marienbad: both are non-linear, but their temporal structures differ.

The powers of the false

2004 ZH-CN · PUBLISHED: 虚假的强力

How does time place the model of truth in crisis and give the false creative power?

EDITION LOCATOR

print 199245 · PDF viewer 210256

CONCEPTS

falsifying narration · series · metamorphosis · will to power

FILMMAKERS / FILMS

Welles · Robbe-Grillet · Godard · F for Fake

Close-reading note

Keep asking whether the film secretly preserves a final tribunal. The false gains power only when the adjudicating position is also drawn into the series.

Thought and cinema

2004 ZH-CN · PUBLISHED: 思维与电影

Why does cinema reveal the powerlessness of thought rather than express ready-made ideas?

EDITION LOCATOR

print 246298 · PDF viewer 257309

CONCEPTS

shock · spiritual automaton · the whole · interstice

FILMMAKERS / FILMS

Eisenstein · Artaud · Godard · Straub–Huillet

Close-reading note

The chapter moves from classical faith that totality and shock automatically produce thought to modern cinema’s need to begin from the impossibility of thinking.

Cinema, body and brain, thought

2004 ZH-CN · PUBLISHED: 电影,躯体与大脑,思维

How do bodily attitudes and brain-like spaces carry time and thought?

EDITION LOCATOR

CONCEPTS

body of attitude · gestus · cinema of the brain · belief in the world

FILMMAKERS / FILMS

Cassavetes · Godard · Garrel · Kubrick · Resnais

Close-reading note

Read body and brain together: one begins from fatigue, waiting, and ceremony; the other from topological connections and informational landscapes.

The components of the image

2004 ZH-CN · PUBLISHED: 影像的构成元素

After the coming of sound, how does sound become genuinely autonomous?

print 355415 · PDF viewer 366426

CONCEPTS

audio-visual image · free indirect discourse · readable image · lectosign

FILMMAKERS / FILMS

Straub–Huillet · Duras · Godard · Syberberg

Close-reading note

Do not merely look for asynchronous sound. Study how sound and image form distinct series and meet at an incommensurable boundary.

Conclusions

2004 ZH-CN · PUBLISHED: 结论

How should cinema re-draw the borders among semiotics, language, and information?

EDITION LOCATOR

print 416444 · PDF viewer 427455

CONCEPTS

non-linguistic semiotics · information · the outside · belief

FILMMAKERS / FILMS

Godard · Resnais · modern cinema

Close-reading note

Return to the whole project: taxonomy is not a closed table but a way to reserve generative space for images and signs that do not yet exist.
