The Riddle of the Vase: Ozu Yasujirō’s Late Spring (1949)

Nornes surveys conflicting readings and explains on p. 86 how Bordwell and Thompson correct Richie and Schrader's descriptions of point of view, while asking why that formal correction still fails to explain the vase's force. Rejecting a fixed symbol inferred from ‘Noriko sees the vase’ is the atlas's methodological boundary.
